Video Description:
Wes Huff argues that tradition has a voice and a vote, but Scripture possesses the final veto—and that Scripture is sufficient. But before Scripture can exercise that veto, who identifies which writings actually belong to Scripture?
In this presentation, Sam Shamoun places Wes Huff’s position alongside conclusions reached by other Protestant and evangelical scholars concerning New Testament authorship, disputed books, pseudonymous writings, biblical inerrancy, and the canon.
The dilemma reaches its sharpest point with 2 Timothy 3:16. Before Protestants can use this passage to prove Sola Scriptura, they must already know that 2 Timothy belongs to the inspired canon. Yet the verse does not identify the books of Scripture or provide an inspired table of contents.
If a Protestant appeals to the early Church to identify the canon, why trust that Church concerning the identity of Scripture while rejecting its authority, apostolic traditions, sacraments, and doctrines?
This presentation carefully distinguishes Wes Huff’s own statements from the positions of the other scholars cited. The argument is not that Wes personally declares New Testament books to be forgeries. The issue is whether his understanding of biblical authority can survive the canon and authorship difficulties acknowledged within Protestant scholarship.
