Why Catholics Call This the Heart That Saves – Excerpta Catechismi

❤️ Why do Catholics call the Sacred Heart of Jesus “the Heart that saves”?

The answer must begin with an essential truth: Jesus Christ saves.

The Sacred Heart is not a separate savior, spiritual power, or devotional object existing apart from Our Lord. It is the true human Heart of Jesus Christ, inseparably belonging to the Divine Person of the eternal Son of God.

✝️ On Calvary, Christ freely offered Himself for the redemption of mankind. After His death, “one of the soldiers with a spear opened his side, and immediately there came out blood and water” (John 19:34, Douay–Rheims).

The pierced Sacred Heart therefore directs us toward the whole mystery of Redemption—the Incarnation, Passion, Cross, grace, the Sacraments, conversion, charity, and eternal life.

🔥 Authentic devotion to the Sacred Heart does not mean that an image, devotional practice, or private revelation automatically guarantees salvation. Nor does devotion replace repentance or the ordinary requirements of the Christian life.

Rather, the Sacred Heart reveals the immense love of Jesus Christ our Redeemer and draws the sinner toward Him.

🙏 We must repent of sin, receive and cooperate with God’s grace, live in sanctifying grace, receive the Sacraments worthily, obey God’s commandments, practice charity, and faithfully persevere.

Christ saves.
His Sacred Heart reveals the love of the Savior.
Devotion leads us toward Him.
