What happens after death—and can a near-death experience reveal anything about heaven, the human spirit, and the afterlife? In this emotional conversation, Sam Shamoun speaks with a Christian woman from South Africa who shares a near-death experience she kept private for 14 years. While hospitalized in 2010, she says she suddenly found herself floating above her body while wearing a white gown.
She tells Sam Shamoun that she could see her body lying in the hospital bed, pass through it, and watch her sister enter the room without being able to see or hear her. She then found herself walking alone along a narrow path beside a terrifying abyss and outer darkness. The path led toward a radiant light, a high mountain, and what appeared to be a heavenly castle or city. Before reaching it, she returned to her body and began speaking a language her sister could not understand.

Sam Shamoun connects the narrow path to Matthew 7:13–14, the abyss and outer darkness to Matthew 8:12 and Luke 8:31, the heavenly city on a high mountain to Revelation 21, the tree of life to Revelation 22, and the mysterious language to the tongues of angels mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:1. Sam Shamoun also explains the meaning of the white robe through Revelation 7:9–17, where believers stand before God and the Lamb in robes made white by the blood of Jesus Christ.
After waiting 14 years for an explanation, the woman becomes overwhelmed with emotion as Sam Shamoun explains why she did not reach the heavenly city, what the white gown represented, and why death does not mean that a person ceases to exist. Through James 2:26, Revelation, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Sam Shamoun presents the experience as a reminder that the body without the spirit is dead, salvation belongs to God and the Lamb, and believers who remain faithful to Jesus Christ have nothing to fear from death.
