✝️ WHAT DOES “DYING TO SELF” REALLY MEAN?
Does God want you to suffer? Does Christian mortification mean hating yourself, rejecting happiness, or deliberately seeking pain?
The Catholic Church teaches something far more profound.
Christian mortification is not self-destruction. It is the putting to death of sinful and disordered tendencies so that grace and virtue may grow.
📖 CHRIST’S COMMAND
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23 (Douay–Rheims)
Our Lord Jesus Christ calls every Christian to self-denial. But what does this mean in ordinary life?
Why must we practice mortification if God created human nature good? Are our natural desires and emotions evil? What is the difference between interior and exterior mortification?
In this episode of Christian Mortification Made Easy — A Catholic Guide to Dying to Self, we explain these questions through traditional Catholic doctrine.

🙏 MORTIFICATION IN EVERYDAY LIFE
You do not need to live in a monastery or undertake extraordinary penances to begin.
You can practice Christian mortification by fulfilling your duties promptly, accepting correction without resentment, controlling an angry reply, refusing unnecessary complaints, and choosing charity over personal preference.
These ordinary acts help us cooperate with God’s grace, overcome disordered attachments, and grow in virtue.
The purpose is not suffering for its own sake.
The purpose is greater freedom to love and obey God.
