👑 Why do Catholics call Mary Queen if Jesus Christ is King?
If Christ alone is the sovereign King of heaven and earth, does honoring His Mother as Queen diminish His glory?
Not at all.
The Archangel Gabriel declared that Christ’s Kingdom would have no end (Luke 1:33).
Mary is the Mother of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God made man. Her queenship rests principally upon her Divine Maternity, as explained by Pope Pius XII in Ad Caeli Reginam (1954).
At Calvary, Mary stood faithfully beside her Son’s Cross. Yet Christ alone offered the saving sacrifice for our redemption.
And in heaven, Mary intercedes for the faithful with maternal love, always in dependence upon Christ’s grace and merits.
Catholics honor Mary as Queen, but worship God alone.
Mary does not compete with Christ the King. Her queenship comes entirely from Him.
📖 In Short #13 of How to Make Christ Our King, discover the Catholic teaching on Mary’s queenship, her Divine Maternity, her faithful presence at Calvary, and her maternal intercession.
🙏 When you next pray the Hail Holy Queen, ask for Mary’s intercession and the grace to imitate her humility and obedience.
Mary is Queen because Jesus is King. To honor her rightly is to draw nearer to Him.
