William Whitaker’s Disputation on Holy Scripture (1588) is considered by many Protestants to be the greatest book-length defense of Sola Scriptura ever written. So Kenny Burchard and Dave Armstrong decided to take it on directly. In this first episode of a new series, Dave — who devoted 173 pages to refuting Whitaker in his book Pillars of Sola Scriptura — walks through Whitaker’s opening argument: that Catholics make Scripture inferior to the Church. The problem? The Council of Trent and Vatican I explicitly contradict that claim. And Whitaker knew it — he cites four Catholic apologists who denied it and ignores them anyway.
