Did Jesus really have biological brothers from Mary? Many Protestants argue that because the Gospels call certain men the “brothers” of Jesus, Mary must have had other children after Christ.
But John 6:42 exposes the problem with that assumption.
The people called Jesus “the son of Joseph,” yet Christians do not conclude Joseph was His biological father. Why? Because Scripture and the Church’s witness clarify what the phrase does and does not mean.
In the same way, calling certain men the “brothers” of Jesus does not automatically prove they were Mary’s biological children.
