Why Must the Priest Receive Communion First?

🙏 Why does the priest receive Holy Communion before the faithful during the Traditional Latin Mass?

Many people assume it is a privilege of rank. In reality, it is a profound part of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. After offering the sacrifice in the person of Christ, the priest first receives the Sacred Victim before distributing Holy Communion to the faithful.

This sacred order reminds us that the Mass is first Christ’s perfect sacrifice, from which Holy Communion flows. Every gesture directs our attention not to the individual priest, but to Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest, who continues His saving work through the sacred liturgy.
