What happens after Holy Communion at the Traditional Latin Mass?
After the sacred vessels are purified, the priest returns to the Missal and reads the Communion Antiphon — a brief liturgical text proper to the Mass, ordinarily drawn from Sacred Scripture.
Its words help illuminate the feast, season, or mystery being celebrated in light of the Eucharist just received. The Church does not simply receive Our Lord and immediately move on. The liturgy turns toward thanksgiving, recollection, and prayer. 🙏
For the communicant, this is also a deeply personal moment. Having received Jesus Christ in Holy Communion, the soul is invited to remain recollected in His presence — to adore Him, thank Him, love Him, and resist the immediate return to ordinary distractions.
Holy Communion is not something simply received and then left behind. Having received Christ, remain with Him. ✝️
