Twenty-five years ago today, America was attacked and a “war on terror” was declared shortly thereafter by US President George W. Bush.
“Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda,” he said, “but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated.” (Sept. 20, 2001)
The following January, he referred to North Korea, Iran, and Iraq — countries which had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack — as “an axis of evil” which must be forcefully opposed: “Our war on terror is well begun, but it is only begun. This campaign may not be finished on our watch — yet it must be and it will be waged on our watch.” (Jan. 29, 2002)
What really happened on September 11, 2001 and how has America’s “war on terror” impacted the rest of the world, in particular, the Middle East? This is what Matt Gaspers and his guests will discuss during tonight’s show.
