How Can Jesus Have a Human Heart If He Is God?

❤️ How can Jesus Christ possess a truly human Heart if He is God?

The answer leads directly into one of the central mysteries of the Catholic faith: the Hypostatic Union.

Jesus Christ is not two persons. He is one Divine Person—the Eternal Son of God—possessing two complete natures, divine and human.

His human nature is completely real. He possesses a true human body, a rational human soul, a human intellect and will, genuine human affections, and therefore a true human Heart.

Yet that Heart does not belong to another human person alongside the Son of God.

It belongs personally to Jesus Christ Himself, the Eternal Word made flesh.

In this episode of The Sacred Heart of Jesus — Volume II: Deeper Catholic Theology, we examine:

✝️ What Catholics mean by person and nature
📖 Why Jesus is truly God and truly man
⛪️ What the Hypostatic Union actually means
❤️ Why the Sacred Heart is genuinely human
👑 Why the Person whose Heart it is is divine
🩸 How Calvary reveals the reality of Christ’s humanity
📜 Why the Church can speak of the true human Heart of God the Son made man

The Sacred Heart is not the divine nature itself. It is a created, physical human Heart belonging to Christ’s true humanity.

But the Person who possesses that humanity is the uncreated Eternal Son.

This is why Catholics may rightly speak of the Sacred Heart as:

A truly human Heart.
A Divine Person.
One Jesus Christ.
