Why St. Thomas Aquinas Became the Angelic Doctor | #Shorts #ViralShorts – Excerpta Catechismi

St. Thomas Aquinas became one of the greatest theologians and Doctors in the history of the Catholic Church—but his extraordinary intellect was always directed toward something infinitely greater than knowledge itself: God. ✝️

Known as the Angelic Doctor — Doctor Angelicus, St. Thomas showed the profound harmony between faith and reason. 🕯 Because God is the source of all truth, authentic faith and sound reason cannot ultimately contradict one another.

📖 In his monumental Summa Theologiae, Aquinas treated the great questions of God, creation, man, virtue, sin, grace, Christ, and the sacraments with extraordinary clarity and order. Yet for Thomas, sacred theology was never simply an intellectual achievement. Knowledge of divine truth was meant to lead the soul toward the knowledge and love of God.

🍞 His theology reached a particularly profound expression in his teaching and devotion concerning the Holy Eucharist. Aquinas defended the reality of Christ’s presence and explained with remarkable precision the mystery the Church calls transubstantiation: while the appearances of bread and wine remain after consecration, Christ Himself is truly present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

🙏 Near the end of his life, after an extraordinary mystical experience, Aquinas ceased writing. Early testimony relates that what he had written seemed like straw compared with what had been revealed to him. This was not a rejection of theology, but a final testimony to its purpose: even the highest human knowledge must ultimately lead to God in adoration.
